QuickStore Torquay overrun by alpacas thanks to Torbay schools

Oldway Primary School in Torbay is making waves this summer by heading up a project in local schools with a herd of alpacas. Luckily the creatures are just fibreglass models but they’ve been decorated by schoolchildren and transformed into contemporary works of art for display!

The alpaca trail around Torbay features 35 life-sized models of the animal thanks to The Jolly Roger Model Company in Bovey Tracey. Primary, secondary and special needs schools in the area picked up their models a few weeks ago and excitedly began work designing them.

The leading teacher for art in the Torbay Teaching Alliance, Claire Mitchell, has said: “We wanted to do something to get everyone talking about and enjoying art.” As primary school children in Torbay now study a South American country as part of the curriculum, the alpaca project will fit nicely with their learning too!

Two of the alpacas have been placed in QuickStore Torquay, drawing much interest and attention from customers and visitors alike. The Dali Llama to the left gathered inspiration from renowned surrealist artist Salvador Dali while the alpaca on the right took a turn for the Sci-Fi in Steampunk style.

QS Network News – Efficient Comms aids SDABS in moving their communications systems

SDABS logoEfficient Comms Ltd specialise in business communications and recently helped South Devon Accounting & Business Services Ltd. (SDABS) dodge obstacles that hindered their move into new office premises at the QuickStore Business Centre in Torquay.

SDABS found themselves a little tied up when they tried to move, as they couldn’t continue using their advertised phone number because it belonged to their existing serviced offices. SDABS took the next logical step and contacted several telecoms suppliers who gave them hefty quotes for new fixed lines and equipment, making the move less viable financially.

Via the power of networking groups, Efficient Comms were asked to look at the options available and came up with a solution to allow flexibility in numbering using SIP trunks, VoIP, with an IP based telephone system. Using a single Superfast broadband connection Efficient Comms were able to deploy SIP trunks, and also port some existing numbers. A new cat 5 data network was installed covering all their voice and data needs and an LG Ericsson IP Unified Communications platform deployed.

Efficient CommsSouth Devon Accountancy and Business Services Ltd. were then able to move offices with no delay in their communications and now have a high-speed data network with access to a host of software. The costs of these systems were spread over a 5-year leasing package, making the move even more affordable.

Ros Davis from SDABS said: “On researching a number of companies, we approached Efficient Comms as we felt they were competitively priced and we liked their personal approach. The transfer of our phone system, despite being on a tight time schedule, went very smoothly and the very few initial queries or glitches were resolved quickly and efficiently.”

If you’re interested in updating your communications infrastructure then call Kevin on 01803 611 611 or email him. Alternatively visit the Efficient Comms website for more information.

QS Network News – Neville & Co take to the water with St Luke’s Hospice

St Lukes Hospice Dragon Boat RaceThe Neville & Co. crew joined forces with the St Luke’s Hospice team at the Dragon Boat Race at Mount Batten Activity Centre last month. Taking part in several races, the team took to the water to battle 9 other teams in a bid to raise money for their local hospice!

Each team was in fancy dress with the St Luke’s team donning eye patches and beards for their Pirate get-up. Lisa Thomas of Neville & Co said she misses her heat-insulating beard for all the warmth it afforded her on the water! The crew was made up of 16 rowers altogether and a drummer to keep the pace, and no doubt to encourage the group too!

Lisa Thomas is not just an insolvency practitioner but also sits on the board for St Luke’s Hospice. For more information on the Dragon Boat Race, and to find out how you can participate next year contact St Luke’s Hospice and support this great cause.

QuickStore Saltash on the 2015 Saltash Regatta weekend

As you may remember last year’s Saltash Regatta was an absolute hit with great weather and a bustling crowd. This year was no different! The sun was shining on Saturday and the locals were out in full force to show their support for the great event.

QuickStore Saltash was once again a main sponsor of the weekend and that meant we heartily accepted a place in the Regatta race! Last year we finished respectably in the semi-finals however the ‘QuickStore Quickies’ weren’t as quick this time. It was a few metres forward and a few metres back as one of our team members was rowing backwards!

Despite our defeat in the race we had a fantastic weekend sharing a stand with the Saltash Lions, who we also sponsor. The day was fun for all and we even managed to make some new business contacts. We look forward to the next Regatta and seeing you all there!
